Golf in Snowshoe WV
The Raven Golf Club, previously known as
the Hawthorne Valley at Snowshoe, is
nestled in the scenic hills of
Pocahontas County, WV. This 18-hole Gary
Player signature Snowshoe Mountain
course, features a full practice
facility and all the amenities known to
other Intrawest "Raven"
courses. The Raven at Snowshoe Resort
was named the top pubic access course in
West Virginia for a sixth straight year
in 2008, and has also been named one of
the "Top 25 Courses Under $100" by
Travel and Leisure Golf. The Raven at
Snowshoe Resort offers great West
Virginia Golf for not only avid golfers
but also beginners.
Beautifully situated in the Allegheny
foothills, the course is etched into the
mountainside and offers stunning vistas
of the surrounding valleys. The rolling
greens take advantage of the unique
location, with elevation changes of up
to 250 feet from tee to landing area.
The Raven at Snowshoe Resort uses a lot
of the natural terrain starting with the
front nine which plays through hardwoods
and around several lakes, and then
climbs into higher elevations for the
back nine, with several cliff-side tee
boxes. Some of the greens overlook the
entire mountain side, while others are
also on top of a cliff. The fairways are
tight, including eleven that are tree
lined, so there is a real need for
accuracy. Water hazards (three ponds and
several creeks) come into play on eight
holes. The elevated green on hole #5 is
almost completely surrounded by the
creek. "GOLFWEEK" rated this course 96th
among "America's 100 Best Modern
Courses" for 1998 and 97th for 1999.
Each of the Raven's 18 holes is
unique, offering golfers new challenges.
In addition to the championship course,
The Raven is home to a driving range,
putting green, full-service pro shop,
GPS units on each Cart, and the tasty
Raven Grille, the perfect spot for lunch
or a cold drink after a day on the
links. While at the Raven Grille, be
sure to ask about the Golf Ball rolling
game on the bar for additional fun.
In addition to the breathtaking views,
guests of The Raven enjoy Snowshoe's
summer climate. The area experiences
little to no humidity, so afternoons on
the greens are enjoyed comfortably in
the warm mountain sunshine with “No
Bugs.” The Raven's season lasts until
